The study, published August 1 in the journal Nature, adds to the growing body of knowledge indicating that fast-rising magma can trigger a volcanic eruption and could lead to better eruption forecasting, according to lead author Phillip Ruprecht, a volcanologist at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.
